August 16, 2006 ISLC lecture at the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Society (IAJGS) Conference to be held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. "Sephardic History of the Lower East Side of New York" 10am.

July 19, 2006 Lecture by Shelomo Alfassa on the 700th anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews from France. "Recognizing the Ashkenazi Influence on the Sephardi world." Venue location (in New York City) will be announced three weeks prior to event.

March 16-20, 2006 Miami: ISLC to present issues relating to addressing rights and redress of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries at multiple venues.

March 13, 2006 Taanit Esther prayers and a protest against Iran - 12:30pm at the Iranian Mission (622 3rd Ave. @ 40th St. NYC). Speak out against a Modern Day Haman. The event was organized by AMCHA. It is sponsored by The New York Board of Rabbis, Ramaz Middle School, The Frisch School, and Yeshiva University High School and the International Sephardic Leadership Council.

March 6, 2006 Shelomo Alfassa of ISLC is a guest on the 'Talkline with Zev Brenner' radio show (WSNR 620 AM) 9pm EST. It is heard in NYC, Northern NJ, and parts of Conn. The topic will be the Tajikistan synagogue destruction and the murder of the rabbi and chairman of the Tashkent, Uzbekistan community last week. The conversation will discuss the two countries involved, their history, Islamic nature, and current position on the world stage. The Zev Brenner show is rebroadcast via Talkline Radio on WLVJ 1040 AM in South Florida (Saturday midnight-2am) and in Israel on 94.6 FM and 90.5 FM.

March 5, 2006 Join the ISLC at the Touro College Graduate School of Jewish Studies conference at the Center for Jewish History, located at 15 West 16th Street in New York City. The conference is entitled "Conversion and Reversion to Judaism: From the Crusades to the Enlightenment."

March 5, 2006 ISLC joining in the memorial and protest for the brutal torture and murder of Ilan Halimi a"h, a French Sephardic Jew. 12pm at the French Consulate 5th Ave at 74th St. NYC. The event is led by Rabbi Avi Weiss of AMCHA-The Coalition for Jewish Concerns.

March 4, 2006 Stan Urman of Justice for Jews from Arab Countries will be speaking Friday night and Saturday afternoon in New York in association with the ISLC. His topic will be the international campaign to seek rights and redress for Jews expelled from Arab Countries after 1948.

February 28, 2006 Rabbi Rakowitz has been rabbi of the Sephardic Jewish Center of Canarsie for over 25 years, and on this night will be speaking on the subject: "History of the New York Turkish-Cuban Sephardic Community." 8pm.

February 26, 2006 Together with Sephardic Bikur Holim, the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation is hosting a Bone Marrow donor recruitment drive at the Sephardic Community Center in Brooklyn, NY 10am-4 pm. ISLC will be providing volunteer support at the event.

February 26, 2006 The ISLC is joining with Moledet US, Americans for a Safe Israel, and The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) to share the message "No Land for Peace - No Land for Hudna!" when Israeli Former Prime Minister Shimon Peres visits South Florida. April 14, 2005 - With the tradition to study the Pirke Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) the ISLC will make available free MP3's (digital audio files) of the Pirke Avot. These can be played on your computer, put on an iPod or burned to a CDrom.

March 15, 2005 - ISLC releases a new film: "Glimpses of Sephardic Life" (Ojadas a La Vida Sefaradi) "Reminiscing With Daisy Alalouf Newell". This 40 minute DVD combines music and narration about life experiences in the Sephardic world by Daisy Alalouf Newell, a Sephardic woman whose parents were born in Salonika (Ladino and English).

January 26, 2005 - The Farhud was discussed on New World Radio AM 1540 WNWR of Philadelphia. In a 20 minute interview, Farhud Recognition Project coordinator Shelomo Alfassa discussed the Farhud, the Holocaust and its affects in Arab lands and the goals of the Farhud Recognition Project. He also discussed Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic. WNWR serves the metropolitan Philadelphia area, including Southern New Jersey and Northern Delaware.

January 22/23, 2005 - ISLC to co-sponsor an evening at Kahal Yosef, the great Iraqi synagogue in Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Holocaust Museum. We are also co-sponsoring the event which will take place at Beth Tikva in Fullerton, California. Presentation will be made by Mr. Edwin Black on Hitler and the Iraqi Jews as well as a panel of survivors of the 1941 Farhud. Edwin Black Page

January 21, 2005 - Press conference organizaed at the Los Angeles Holocaust Memorial Museum where three national groups will simultaneously announce that they would officially recognize and remember "the Farhud" as a forgotten Holocaust pogrom. They will urge all Holocaust museums and educational courses worldwide to do likewise. ISLC to lead the program.

December 29, 2004 - ISLC Executive Director Shelomo Alfassa on Israel National News Radio, the Tovia Singer Show, discussing the recent ISLC survey of the population.

December 27, 2004 0650 EST - C-Span TV broadcast. Banking on Baghdad: Inside Iraq's 7,000 Year History of War, Profit, and Conflict. Lecture at Sephardic Congregation Magen David: Author Edwin Black explores the history of Iraq in his new book, "Banking on Baghdad: Inside Iraq's 7,000 Year History of War, Profit, and Conflict." It chronicles Iraq from the days of Mohammed to the Mongols to the Ottoman Empire to the present day. The author stresses the importance that oil has played throughout Iraq's history as well as the role it will continue to play in the future - also the involvement of Hitler and the Arabs who targeted the Jews of Iraq.

November 30, 2004 - ISLC to sponsor an evening with Hillel at University of Central Florida, showing the film Emperors and Rebels: The True Story of Hanukah. This is a new educational documentary from Israel developed by leading experts on Jewish and Hellenistic history. There will also be a photo exhibit and a speaker. There is no charge to attend.
